As a roller coaster year of ups and downs in the Colorado, national and world economies has come to a close, all the talk about how to weather the economic storm can get downright depressing. So, I’d like to focus on some more inspiring news of how Colorado small businesses are forging ahead into their bright futures. These are, in my mind, LLCs, LLPs, and C-Corp business that have formed around great ideas:
- Denver based Poo Free Parks™ expanded its eco-friendly dog waste program to Aurora and Chatfield State Park and into California and Oregon. This company provides environmentally responsible pet waste supplies and services to 180 local communities in the U.S. The program includes the installation, supply, and upkeep of pet waste bag dispensers made from100 percent recyclable aluminum, filled with 100 percent biodegradable bags designed to naturally deteriorate within 18 months.
- Boulder based Next Big Sound, a music analytics company, has raised $6.5 million in funding. This TechStars graduate offers both free and paid analytics that incorporates social media data.
- Liquiscapes, a Denver builder of water features, such as backyard fish ponds and decorative fountains, was the recipient of FedEx’s Business of the Week award. FedEx nominates three small businesses from around the nation on a weekly basis for a $5,000 award. Online voting determines the winner.
- Xperience Colorado an online marketing company featuring outdoor events in Colorado and based in Castle Rock, received the 2011 U.S. Commerce Association (USCA) Best of Local Business Award. The USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community
